The Quartet

Alan Toda-Ambaras

Cello

Recipient of the Prize for Most Promising Contestant at the 2005 Rostropovich International Cello Competition in Paris, Alan Toda-Ambaras is active as both a soloist and a chamber musician.

He has performed with Midori; Yo-Yo Ma, Sandeep Das, and other members of the Silk Road Ensemble; the Parker Quartet; A Far Cry; the Borromeo Quartet; and has appeared twice as a soloist with the North Carolina Symphony. Recent appearances include several performances in Symphony Hall (as a substitute cellist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra) , Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre and Paine Hall, Grace Note Farm in Rhode Island, Tokyo’s Ohji Hall, Osaka’s Phoenix Hall, and the National Academy of Music in Vietnam. He has been featured on French television due to his participation in the Rostropovich Competition; he has also been heard on NPR’s From The Top program, New York’s WKCR Classical station, and Boston’s Neighborhood News Network.

Alan is a co-founder of Eureka Ensemble, a social justice-oriented Boston music organization. He also serves as general manager for the Boston branch of the Japan-America Academic Center, through which he works with hundreds of Japanese high-school students every year on topics surrounding multiculturalism, communication, and liberal arts education.
