Our Mission

Eureka Ensemble works with communities in the greater Boston area to address social issues through music.

We use music to inspire and empower people to express their stories and come together with empathy and joy to serve the common good.

Programs tailored to the community

We work with often neglected communities, such as people experiencing homelessness, immigrants and refugees, and at-risk youth, showing them how to make and listen to music.

We build on the innate human capacity to enjoy rhythm and sound, often tailoring our programs to each community’s traditional musical forms and cultural stories.

On the practical level, we support social causes by creating partnerships with social service organizations, building awareness about a specific problem or community need, raising funds, and harnessing the skills of other leaders and experts to fine-tune our programs.

Musicians are Social Innovators

We aim to steer young professional musicians towards an expanded vision of what a musician’s role is, in which they use their musical training and gifts to help communities and address social problems.

We do this by creating performance and teaching opportunities for young musicians to work in our programs and mentoring them to become musical leaders in their own right.

In Eureka, we are all citizen artists, dedicated to using music as a vehicle for change and social service. We embody this in every aspect of our musical and professional lives and work to inspire others to do the same.

Listening to our Stakeholders

We see Eureka Ensemble as a civic and social engagement program.

Making music calls on people to collaborate and become a part of something larger than themselves. Listening is the essential element of community building. By teaching our audiences how to make music — say, by simply clapping out different rhythms — we’re also teaching them how to listen.

This means that we enroll everyone in the act of creating music — our program participants, our musicians and our concert audiences.

Eureka Ensemble aspires to build a community where all voices matter and everyone belongs.
