A native of California, David is a multifaceted musician in the greater Boston area who currently splits his time as performer, teacher, and music administrator. As a saxophonist and woodwind doubler, he is active in classical, jazz, theatre, and improvisation. As a classical musician, he has performed with the groups as diverse as the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Hub New Music, and the Navy Band East.
David is an ardent educator and has been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, clarinet, and flute) since 2005 as a private instructor. He is on faculty at the EKS Music School & at the All Newton Music School, and he also performs educational outreach with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, North End Music and Performing Arts Center, and the Boston Philharmonic’s Crescendo! Program.
David also has extensive experience in technical production and concert management in a variety of organizational positions. He was the Program Director of Hub New Music, Production Assistant at California State University Fullerton, and Technical Services Assistant in New England Conservatory’s Libraries. In 2015, David was the live-in Musical Assistant to Gunther Schuller. Gunther became a mentor, a teacher, and a friend.
David holds a Bachelor's degree in music from California State University, Fullerton, where he was the President’s Scholar and graduated summa cum laude (2013), and a Double Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Theory from New England Conservatory (2016).
