Sheltering Voices Concert

  • Church of the Covenant 67 Newbury Street Boston, MA, 02116 United States (map)

*Concert is still being planned. Please stay tuned for more details. Thank you.*

Sheltering Voices is a musical initiative to empower homeless women, educate the public on domestic abuse issues, and support local homeless shelters. Our vision is to recruit and bring together a choir of homeless women – combined with women from local professional choirs – and to commission Stephanie Ann Boyd, our Composer-in-Residence, to write a piece for this new choir and the orchestra. The lyrics will be written by poet and women’s rights advocate Jessica Lynn Suchon, whose creative work is about shedding the shame and stigma around discussing female-related trauma. Jessica will interview participants in the choir and construct the lyrics for the commission based on what participants share with her. We are calling the commissioned work and hence the overall project “Sheltering Voices.”
